Greenspan: Country Can't Afford McCain's Tax Cuts

Former Federal Reserve Bank chairman Alan Greenspan said Saturday that the country can't afford tax cuts of the size being proposed by Sen. John McCain, at least not without big cuts in government spending.

By some estimates, McCain's cuts amount to more than $3 trillion. He wants to extend the Bush tax cuts for all, including the well-to-do; reduce the corporate tax rate, and eliminate the Alternative Minimum Tax. It was originally designed to force the rich to pay at least some taxes, but has increasingly been hitting middle-class families.
