Subject: This week

Hello Phillips County! Wanted to pass along some information of things happening the next couple of days:

Tomorrow (today-Wednesday, September 24th) - Lincoln's Journey of Remembrance will stop in Helena for an overnight stay.  Lincoln's Journey of Remembrance is re-enactment of Abraham Lincoln's journey that took him from his home in Rockport, Indiana to New Orleans in 1828.  The future President was only 19 at the time and he transported a load of produce for a local Rockport merchant.  The boat itself is a replica of a 60 foot pioneer era flatboat and along it's journey, will make stops in 8 states in 27 days.  The crew on board are dressed in period costume and of course it wouldn't be complete without the main attraction - the future President himself.  This is really exciting to see and I can't wait to see the boat pull up at the river park in Helena.  It is expected to arrive somewhere between 4 and 6pm Wednesday (today) afternoon and depart on Thursday morning at 8am.

Before the boat actually arrives, locals are invited to arrive at the river park beginning around 3:30 or 4:00 until 7:00 and see a large display that will be set-up along with free activity books and information to be handed out to children.  So for all you parents, please make an effort to take part in this great opportunity being afforded to us.  We would also like a small crowd to be at the park to welcome the boat.  For more information on this Journey of Remembrance, visit their website at www.lincolnsjourney.org

Good Morning America - Thursday morning from 7-9
Some people are calling the Chamber thinking that Diane Sawyer and the other hosts will be broadcasting live from Helena.  Well, unfortunately not.  David Muir, ABC News Reporter and Weekend ABC News Anchor will be doing several live scenes from the bank of the Mississippi River in Helena (Walden Landing).  None the less, it is still exciting that they chose Helena for one of their stops - we will take what we can get!  The producer has told me that a crowd of on-lookers is welcomed, but to understand you won't be on camera.  Unfortunately, it is not like they want a group of us around to hold up signs and do the traditional "Good Morning America" greeting.  I wish it was.  Anyway, with that said, either come down to the river on Thursday morning or be sure and drink your coffee and watch your town on national television from the comforts of home.  I have also been informed that a crew from KATV Channel 7's Daybreak will be in town that morning to share the GMA trip with it's Daybreak and Good Morning Arkansas audiences.

High School Football Match-Ups - Friday:
The two most watched will be the match-up between in-county private school rivals of Marvell Academy and DeSoto playing each other at DeSoto and the 5A #1 Rate Cougars of Helena-West Helena Central High School will take on Paragould at Cad Polk Stadium here in Helena-West Helena.

Boys and Girls Club of Phillips County Grand Opening - Saturday at 12 noon
The community is invited to join the board and members of the Boys and Girls Club of Phillips County as they formally celebrate the grand opening and dedication of their new flagship facility at the corner of Plaza Street and the Highway 49 Bypass in Helena-West Helena.

A busy and GOOD week for Phillips County.  Good press attention, great high school action, and the Boys and Girls Club Opening!  CONGRATULATIONS PHILLIPS COUNTY!!!!
