Arkansas Possibly Losing 8 Chrysler Dealers -- Per Associated Press

Chrysler moves to shut 8 Arkansas dealers

Thursday, May 14, 2009

Eight Chrysler dealerships in Arkansas are among 789 franchises to be closed, according to a filing by Chrysler LLC on Thursday in U.S. bankrupcy court.

The Arkansas dealerships include: Bob Carver's Cars & Trucks in Mena; Cook Jeep Chrysler Inc. and Crain Chrysler Dodge Jeep, both in Little Rock; Jim Bryant Motors and Steve Smith Country, both in Springdale; Jones Brothers Auto Inc. in Harrison; Louis George Motor Co. in Osceola; and Malvern Chrysler Dodge Jeep in Malvern.

The automaker has about 3,200 dealers but says that's too many. It wants to have stronger, more profitable dealers with better facilities.

Chrysler spokesman Kathy Graham says the company will notify specific dealers before commenting publicly.

The dealers likely will have a right to appeal to get off the list. The move could have a devastating impact on cities across the U.S., costing jobs and tax revenue.
