Local Day of Mourning Declared on Honor of the Memory and Life Works of John D. Crow

EXECUTIVE ORDER

Mr. John D. Crow passed away on Saturday, May 23, 2009. He had cancer. While here, Mr. Crow touched the lives of many residents and visitors. He owned and operated the Edwardian Inn, a prominent Bed and Breakfast Inn here in Helena-West Helena. Mr. Crow served as the Chairman of the Helena West Helena Advertising and Promotions (A & P) Commission which sponsors many good events in our area. He also served on the Warfield Concerts Board of Directors, The Helena Library Board and in many other civic capacities. Just a few months ago, Mr. Crow was declared the 2008 Phillips County Citizen of the Year.

Mr. Crow, a veteran of the Arkansas National Guard, was a symbol of service to mankind and your fellowman. His magnetic smile, gentle touch, and approachable personality made him unique. His service to our community and the greater good, made him extraordinary.

In recognition of these and many other significant community based contributions, our city has suffered a great loss and I am, by the power invested in me as Mayor of the City of Helena-West Helena, Arkansas; by the laws of the State of Arkansas, ordering that our flags flown over city governmental buildings be lowered to half-staff on Friday, May 29, 2009 in honor of Mr. John Crow and in recognition of this day as our local day of mourning. I am encouraging local businesses, governmental agencies, homeowners and citizens to join with the city in observing this special day.

IT IS SO ORDERED THIS THE 28TH DAY OF MAY 2009.

Respectfully submitted,

/s/ James F. Valley

Honorable James F. Valley, Mayor
