Re: Media:236 Possible Cancellation of Council Meeting and Public Hearing--6-15-2009

We are postponing the Public Hearing and Council Meeting. I will provide details later. However, we received the wrong breaker and have a temporary fix. Our phones are still troubled and our electrician has recommended that we conserve as much power as possible. He does believe that we are safe under these conditions. Employees have returned and are monitoring the situation.

The correct breaker should be in this week. After its installation, we hope to return to normal operations in that building.

Ladies and Gentlemen:

We had an 800 watt circuit breaker to go out today (late this afternoon) in the 226 Perry Street building. This has lowered the power in the entire building and hinders our ability to have a city council meeting and/or public hearing.

We have ordered the breaker from TRI COUNTY SUPPLY at a cost of $3,200.00. It should arrive tomorrow.

Mr. Charlie Mills will be replacing the amp/breaker. He will coordinate this effort with Entergy. If all goes well, he will be able to complete this project in 3 to 4 hours.

If all goes well, we will be able to meet in the 226 Perry Building. If not, I suggest we have no meeting.

Understand, part and parcel to any decision to hold the meeting, we will need ample time to cool the building after being without central heat and air during the replacement of the breaker. ENTERGY will kill all power to the building during the replacement. If the building is without air during the hottest portion of the day, we may very well have a difficult time cooling the building prior to the council meeting.

Right now the building is at least partially functional. However, I am considering closing the Water Company and District Court offices until this issue is resolved. I have safety concerns for employees and citizens alike.

There are other considerations. The transformer that will have to be shut off, MAY, impact the Cline-Frazier building and the housing project homes right there on Market Street. We may have to schedule this work around the needs of any elderly or handicapped resident and possible Smith Weiland (Cline Frazier Building).

I will keep you posted.

Sincerely,

James
