S.R.T. Weekly Report

August 20, 2009 – August 27, 2009

1.The SRT for the Helena West Helena Police Department conducted a saturation of areas in Helena . The areas covered were Walnut Street, Pecan Street, Cherry Street, Franklin Street and the Frank Frost – Short Mobile - Corner pocket areas. The activity for the area was very light. Officers made contact with several people in these areas. We have been getting shots fired calls in these areas and complaints of loitering on street corners.

Officers left the Helena area and helped Patrol Officers in clearing the area of North 6th and Garland Streets as they were getting repeat calls about large crowds causing a disturbance.Officers also responded to a shots fired call at 115 South 8th Street. When responding officers saw tw0 young black males running from the area. We searched the area but did not find them. Officers issued several citations while patrolling in these areas.The citations are as listed:

1 Felony narcotic arrest

1 No tag

1 No seat belt

1 No proof of insurance

1 No driver's license

1 Defective equipment

2.The SRT members came out and conducted security for Quanterea Smith's funeral Saturday. Everything was quiet for the funeral as SRT members escorted the family members to the church and to the the grave site. 
 3.August 16, the SRT members were coming out to patrol on the Helena side of town when we got a shots fired call in the 800 block of Pecan Street. SRT members responded to the call and found that 3 houses and one car had been shot. Witnesses named Jarkius Britton, Dequantis Britton, and Darrius Shears as the shooters. Darrius Shears was found later at the Britton house with a stolen gun in his possession. Mr. Shears was arrested and taken to the county jail on charges of Theft by Receiving(stolen handgun), and Terroristic Act. Warrants were served on Mr. Shears the following day with a $80,000.00 bond. We recovered a stolen 9mm pistol and a sawed off shotgun at the scene. Evidence was processed and taken to the crime lab for analysis.

4.SRT members responded to an officer down call on August 27 around 6:45p.m. After suspects were arrested and statements were taken, the team went to the area where the incident took place and patrolled it heavily. There was very little foot trafic so we expanded our patrolling to other areas of the city. Citations were issued as follows:

2 Citations for disorderly conduct

1 Arrest -Suspended D/L

1 Arrest Misdemeanor Drugs (Marijuana)
