Each year, thousands of Arkansans volunteer to pick up litter along the state's roadways and waterways during Keep Arkansas Beautiful's (KAB) Great Arkansas Cleanup (GAC) in an effort to improve the appearance and environmental quality of their communities. This year's fall litter-pickup campaign will run Sept. 12 – Oct. 31. More ...

From the Beginning
The Greers Ferry Lake and Little Red River Cleanup is celebrating its 40th anniversary! The Great Arkansas Cleanup grew out of the Greers Ferry cleanup, which was originally organized in 1969 by Carl Garner of Tumbling Shoals. Carl continues his advocacy for a litter-free Arkansas as a founding member of the Keep Arkansas Beautiful Foundation. This year's Greers Ferry Lake Cleanup is scheduled for Sept. 12. More ...

Community Impact Award
Ron Newport of Jacksonville has received the Community Impact Award from RSVP of Central Arkansas. The award is given to a volunteer who makes a lasting impact on the community. Ron was chosen for his service in the formation of Keep Jacksonville Beautiful, a certified local affiliate of Keep America Beautiful, and the initiation of many of Jacksonville's environmental-improvement projects. RSVP is America's largest volunteer network for people 55 and over.

State's First Certified Litter-Free Zone
Congratulations to R.E. Baker Elementary School in Bentonville as Keep Arkansas Beautiful's first certified Litter-Free Zone! The Litter-Free Zone program is a student-led initiative that empowers students to not only eliminate campus litter but also understand the greater impact litter has on a community, its appearance, pride and environmental quality. Great American Cleanup in Arkansas
Just over 18,000 Arkansans picked up 1.2 million pounds (600 tons) of litter during Keep America Beautiful's 2009 Great American Cleanup™ in Arkansas. Volunteers picked up litter from 1,822 miles of roadway, trails and shoreline and 439 acres of parks and public areas, and closed five illegal dumping sites. More ...
