Word of the Day for Saturday, June 27, 2009

quidnunc \KWID-nuhngk\, noun:

One who is curious to know everything that passes; one who knows or pretends to know all that is going on; a gossip; a busybody.

What a treasure-trove to these venerable quidnuncs, could they have guessed the secret which Hepzibah and Clifford were carrying along with them!
-- Nathaniel Hawthorne, The House of the Seven Gables
Some wretched intrigue which had puzzled two generations of quidnuncs.
-- L. Stephen, Hours in Library

Quidnunc comes from Latin quid nunc?, "what now?"

Subject: Hawkins Named Defensive MVP for All-Star Game

Helena-West Helena Central Cougar 2008 Defensive Lineman Justin Hawkins was just named the Defensive Most Valuable Player for the 2009 Arkansas High School Football All-Star game.  This is a fitting achievement to cap off a wonderful career as a Cougar.  We wish him well.  Turrell Williams also was on the East Squad and Cougar Coach Russell Smith was an Assistant Coach for the East Team.
