Word of the Day for Saturday, July 4, 2009rampart \ram-pahrt\, noun: 1. A fortification consisting of an embankment, often with a parapet built on top. To stand upon ramparts and die for our principles is heroic, but to sally forth to battle and win for our principles is something more than heroic. Not a drum was heard, not a funeral note, There is no rampart that will hold out against malice. Rampart derives from Middle French remparer, equivalent to re + emparer "to take the possesion of."

Word of the Day for Friday, July 3, 2009doughty \DOW-tee\, adjective: Marked by fearless resolution; valiant; brave. He was obsessed with the Arctic, his imagination stoked by epic accounts of the doughty pioneers who had led wooden ships into uncharted waters and northern mists. One day he stumbled, fell against the spinning saw and half severed his left arm. It was three days before a doctor came, but the doughty old Swede was still alive. Doughty comes from Old English dohtig, "brave, valiant, fit."

Helena West Helena Police Department
S.R.T. Weekly Report
June 27, 2009 – July 3, 2009
-
Sgt. Bivens worked with CID Detective Cox on a rape and kidnapping that occurred Saturday morning. An arrest warrant and a search warrant were issued for the suspect that lives on Springdale Road in the Springdale Apartments. The suspect was arrested without incident and evidence was recovered from the apartment.
-
Sgt. Bivens worked with Detective Cox investigating a residential burglary on College Street and one on Cherry Street. Both burglaries are still under investigation.
-
Sgt. Bivens along with all CID and most of the SRT members responded to an armed robbery at Hays Supermarket. The manager Keith Moise was robbed at gunpoint Thurday evening. At this time the crime is still under investigation.
-
Sgt. Bivens conducted training on member assignments on entry into a structure and on hand signals.
Wants and Needs:
1. New shirts for the SRT members with our insignia so all members have shirts that match. These shirts can be made at The Latest Craze with our new insignia. These would only be made for members and the purchase made only by Colonel Fielder, this way only members will have these shirts and no one else can have them made to impersonate a member.
2. It would help in our nighttime activities if we had night vision goggles that can be worn on a headgear. These would be hands free and leave the wearer to handle his weapon if necessary and able to handle suspects as needed.
Future Plans:
-
We will be conducting classes and practical exercises in entry on houses with high risk situations.
-
We will also have continueing classes on active shooter and meth labs.
